Art Director
Job Description
The Art Director is responsible for creating visual assets that can be used across all advertising channels including print, online, video, broadcast, and experiential. They should have strong problem-solving abilities which allow you to see the “big picture” when developing creative and campaigns, all while incorporating the best design practices. The Art Director can efficiently work within the parameters of a creative brief defined by the client, creative director, planning, and account teams. Responsible for understanding the latest technology practices and are able to provide creative and strategic solutions that align.
Responsibilities
- Works together with art, copy, strategy, and PM staff to provide creative, strategically sound solutions for client, in-house, and new business needs
- Works with others in the creative department to develop conceptual abilities
- Interpreting the client’s business needs and developing a visual concept to suit their purpose
- Thinks creatively to produce new ideas and concepts across media
Preparing rough drafts of material based on an agreed brief - Presenting visual concepts to creative directors, business directors, and clients
- Working with a wide range of media, including photography, illustration, and design programs
- Designing presentations and materials for new business pitches and agency communications
- Contributing to interactive design and banner production
- Developing concepts, graphics, and layouts for product illustrations, company logos, and website
- Keeping abreast of emerging technologies in new media, particularly design programs
- Working collaboratively with a team of copywriters, PMs, producers, photographers, illustrators, designers, web developers, and clients
- Demonstrates a complete understanding of color theory and color relationships, typographic terms that identify type forms and the specifications required to refer to typographic settings (i.e., points, leading, picas, kerning, tracking, cap-height, x-height, etc.), perspective and space relationships, page composition and grid structures, print production process, knowledge of production techniques and file prep procedures, photography and the photographic process
- Work closely with PMs to schedule and monitor all projects
- Provide accurate time and cost estimates for each tactic
- Perform tasks, as briefed by Creative Director
- Presents concepts to clients
- Plan, develop, and defend creative recommendations, goals, and timelines
- Accountable to Creative Director for scope, deliverables, and timelines
- Execute creative efforts to ensure they are on strategy and on schedule
- Maintain accurate and current knowledge of new design techniques, trends, and applicable software
- Work in conjunction with Creative Director to ensure the success of active projects
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic or Communication Design
- 7 + years of graphic design experience
- Agency experience strongly preferred
- Healthcare or related experience preferred
- Strong Print and Digital Designer
- Expert in print production and preparing files for print
- Strong Adobe Suite Skills (Illustrator & Photoshop)
- Strong typography, layout, and photography skills
- Experience with building brand standards
